Meet the previous recipients!
I am extremely honoured to receive this scholarship! Especially considering how much effort the selection committee and creators of the scholarship invested in procuring sponsors, organizing silent auctions and reviewing applications. That is a challenging undertaking and I truly appreciate their hard work. Or course I'd also like to thank the multiple sponsors that supported this scholarship. Your generosity was overwhelming and without you, none of this would be possible. The grant I received was put towards paying for National Team Training Camp and accommodations for the time I was competing at the Youth World Championships. Thanks to this scholarship I have been relieved of some of the financial pressure that accompanies these competitions and I've been able to spend more time focusing on my training and my own outdoor projects. Thank you so much for your incredible support!

Thank you so much for this grant, I really appreciate it, and with the help and support it will bring I will be able to further pursue my climbing passions. I recently got back from a 3 week long trip to Squamish, and am now following up with a big thank you. The funds given to me through this grant will help me offset the costs from the four non-local competitions in Canada I hope to attend the following year (Youth Regionals and Youth Nationals, TDB Regionals and TDB Nationals). My trip to Squamish was a blast! I focused on doing easier problems than projecting at my limit. With that in mind, I ended up sending 15 problems from V7 to V9 and a new V10, King Kong to my climbing tick list. On the last day of my trip I took a different approach to my usual climbing agenda and tried to send as many problems as possible. Continuing with that notion, I wound up sending 80 new problems from V0 to V7. As an added challenge to myself, I also tried to break 100 V points and was successful by breaking it and achieving 163.

I would like to thank all of the sponsors for their generous contributions. I am very grateful to have received one of the scholarships. This scholarship has helped me very much with the costs of attending the World Youth Climbing Championships in Victoria, BC this past August. The money I received from this scholarship was put towards the Canadian Youth National Team costs, which included accommodations and traveling to and from training camp and the competition. With the help of this scholarship I have been able to focus more on training over the summer instead of taking more shifts at work. I really appreciate all the sponsors’ donations as it has allowed me to pursue my passion. Thank you very much for your support of the youth climbing community!

Thank you for this amazing opportunity! I feel so privileged to receive one of the scholarships. Part of the grant I received went towards a trip I took this summer to Squamish B.C. During this trip broadened my horizons from just sport climbing and learned how to trad climb and started exploring the world of outdoor bouldering. The rest of the scholarship will help fund my climbing trip to the states this fall. I never imagined having such an incredible opportunity but it was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the Scholarship Comity. Many hours were spent fundraising and organizing the scholarship as well as selecting the recipients. It’s been incredible to see our community and sponsors come together to support young athletes.

I would like to thank all of the contributors for this amazing gift, this money will greatly help me as I travel through Australia and New Zealand this November to climb some amazing rock! In the short time that I have been climbing I have fallen in love with the sport, the mountains, and the amazing community. My favorite part to climbing is getting outside to try some amazing lines with some great friends. I am hoping to travel all around the world to climb in the future and I will continue to be an active part in the climbing community for as long as I can.
Once again thank you, Dominick Mallette |
Hi, my name is Matt Lucas and I am a young rock climber from Calgary, and I was a recipient of the Outstanding Youth in the Calgary climbing community scholarship. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the contributors and sponsors who donated time and funding which made this opportunity possible. I am currently living in Squamish, BC, as a full time climber and the extra funding from the scholarship went a long way in purchasing the necessary gear for my trip. I also am an aspiring climbing photographer so this opportunity to see and capture people climbing in foreign places and the experience I will gain is invaluable. I am also continuing on down south of the border in a couple months’ time to continue pursuing climbing and photography in Washington and California so the scholarship will continue to be put to good use for months to come.
Thank you very much for your support and for helping me pursue climbing in beautiful destinations both at home and abroad. Sincerely, Matt Lucas |
