Who is the ACAYB?
In 2013 an initiative was started to support local Calgary competitive youth in their travels to international climbing events. We had great success with this program and awarded over $4500 to youth that showed exceptional stewardship in the community and achieved their climbing goals, both in and out of competition.
Now, for the youth 2016/17 competition season, this bursary initiative has partnered up with the Alberta Climbing Association (ACA) to be able to reach more youth in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Samantha Li and Regan Kennedy will be working with the ACA, Alberta/ Saskatchewan Climbing gyms, the local community and the greater climbing industry to host three silent auction events. Out of this partnership, the ACAYB (Alberta Climbing Association Youth Bursary) is born.
Thus far, we have received incredible support from local and international members of the climbing community- with their help this fundraiser will be a huge success!
What are we doing with donated product and money raised?
We have been and will continue to receive product from the climbing industry in support of this initiative. We will divide the product between each auction event and hold silent auctions at youth competition events for the climbing community to participate in.
With the money we receive / raise we are hoping to build at least four $1000 scholarships. Local competitive youth can then apply for these scholarships and use the money for travel to national or international climbing competitions. Every dollar raised goes into the fund. All product is donated and the marketing and media has been donated by Blackwater Creative.

We are fully accountable to all of our contributors and supporters and are providing a full accountability report at the end of the program to everyone who helped us along the way

Any ACA youth competitor who is eligible to compete at nationals or worlds is able to apply for a scholarship
How do youth apply?
Youth must apply by June 1st, 2017 and clearly show in their written application that they demonstrate the following:
- dedication to the sport of climbing
- dedication to the their climbing team
- contributions to the local climbing community
- their ranking in the current competitive season (as per the CEC rankings)
